Cookie Policy
Last updated
This policy explains what cookies and similar storage technologies are used on whitespacedigital.co.uk, what they do, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our privacy policy.
The short version
This website does not track you. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no social media tracking and no heat-mapping. Nothing on this site follows you to other websites, and nothing here is used to build an advertising profile.
The only storage we use is what is needed to make the site work: remembering whether you chose the light or dark theme, recording your cookie consent choice, and protecting the enquiry form from automated abuse.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. It is sent back to the site on subsequent visits, which lets the site remember something — a preference, a session, a consent choice.
Related technologies do a similar job. Local storage keeps a value in your browser but, unlike a cookie, never sends it to a server. This site uses local storage rather than a cookie for the theme preference, precisely because that information does not need to leave your device.
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and UK GDPR, cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested do not require consent. Everything else does, and must be off until you agree.
Categories of cookie
Consent is grouped into four standard categories:
Necessary — required for the site to function or to keep it secure. These do not require consent, though we still tell you about them.
Preferences — remember choices you have made, such as a theme or a language.
Statistics — measure how the site is used. We do not use any.
Marketing — track visitors to build advertising profiles. We do not use any, and we do not intend to.
What this site actually uses
Necessary
| Purpose | Set by | Type | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recording your cookie consent choice | Cookiebot (Cybot A/S) | Cookie | 12 months |
| Protecting the enquiry form from automated abuse | Google reCAPTCHA | Cookie | Up to 6 months |
| Security and load balancing during your visit | Vercel (hosting) | Cookie | Session |
Google reCAPTCHA is only loaded on pages containing the enquiry form. It assesses whether a submission is likely to come from a person rather than a script; without it the form would be unusable within days. Google's use of this information is covered by the Google privacy policy.
Preferences
| Purpose | Set by | Type | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remembering your light or dark theme choice | This website | Local storage | Until you clear it |
This value never leaves your browser and contains nothing but the word light, dark or system.
Statistics and marketing
None. If that ever changes — for example if we decide we need basic visitor statistics — the relevant scripts will be held back until you have given consent for the statistics category, and this page will be updated to describe exactly what they are.
Managing your consent
Where consent applies, our consent management platform asks you when you first visit and remembers your answer. You can change your mind at any time using the link at the end of this page, which reopens the consent panel.
You can also control cookies in your browser:
- Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
- Safari — Settings → Privacy
- Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security
- Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking all cookies will not break this site, because nothing essential to reading it depends on them. It may mean the consent panel appears on each visit, since the record of your choice is itself stored in a cookie.
You may also find the "Global Privacy Control" setting in your browser useful; where it is present we honour it as an objection to any non-essential processing.
Cookies on client websites
This policy applies only to whitespacedigital.co.uk. Websites we have built for clients are operated by those clients, who publish their own cookie policies. Where we implement consent management for a client, our standard approach is the same as our own: nothing non-essential loads until the visitor has agreed.
Changes to this policy
If the cookies used on this site change, this page and the declaration below will be updated. The declaration is generated automatically from a scan of the live site, so it reflects what is actually being set rather than what we think is being set.
Cookies used on this website
The table below is generated and kept up to date automatically by our consent management platform, so it always reflects the cookies actually in use.
